The Mai Tai is a Tiki cocktail based on rum, Curaçao liqueur, and lime juice. There are many different Mai Tai recipes and cocktail experts have different opinions about which rum blend (or if you should use two rums at all) is more true to the original recipe. There’s a good writeup of some of the opinions in this article. The original recipe used 100% aged Jamaican rum, and a later version used 50% Jamaican and 50% Martinique rum. I say it experiment and use what you like best. I personally prefer to use 100% Jamaican rum to get the funky/spicy kick that is key to tiki drinks, since none of the other ingredients are spicy.
